The conference “Water. Climate. Justice.” will take place from 21 to 23 March 2025 in Cologne, Germany. With a focus on water, climate and justice, the event aims to set goals, develop strategies and build networks to take action.

 

The programme is divided into three main themes:

1. water knowledge: Scientific foundations, conflicts and approaches to solutions.
2. solidarity-based resilience: practices for overcoming (water) crises.
3. movement building and networking: understanding local conflicts, identifying needs and developing joint strategies and actions.

The theme for World Water Day on 22 March 2025 is “Preserving our glaciers”. This theme emphasises the urgent need to combat the melting of glaciers, as it has a significant impact on water supplies in many countries.

 

Glaciers are vital sources of water for millions of people worldwide. Their melting not only causes devastating floods and landslides, but also reduces drinking water supplies, forcing people to travel long distances to fetch water.
