On the move – the ICPR is preparing for the future

The annual Plenary Session of the International Commission for the Protection of the Rhine (ICPR) was staged in Malbun (Liechtenstein) on 4 and 5 July 2019. The preparation of the Conference of Rhine ministers, in particular of the new programme “Rhine 2040”, which will be approved there, ranged among its focal issues. Furthermore, the ICPR discussed the new results concerning the substance pollution of the Rhine and low water monitoring.

The German TV programme Quarks addresses the water quality of the Rhine in their episode of 18 June: ‘Der totgeglaubte Fluss: Wie gut ist das Rheinwasser heute?’

50 years ago, thousands of poisoned fish drifted across the Rhine. The Rhine was dead. But even before this massive death, the Rhine was considered the “largest cesspool in Europe”. Today the Rhine is alive again – fortunately. But can poison still end up in the Rhine today? Quarks puts the Rhine to the test.
